Breakdowns

Film: The Ant Eater

Tools: Houdini (VFX), Maya (Animation)

。Modeled ancient pillars for environmental design.
。Responsible for creating flame effects (goblets and torches).
。Responsible for animating rigged sacrificed ant.

MFA Thesis – Heat Transfer Mode For Flame And Burning Transmission Effects For Computer Graphics

Tools: Houdini (Modelling, Animation, VFX), Photoshop (Texturing), Nuke (Compositing)

。Used Houdini to model a match, built simulations for heat points and flame effects, and implement duplicating process.
。Used photoshop to created matchstick texture.
。Used Nuke to adjust light intensity, colors, and composited the final animation.

Glass of Wine

Tool: Houdini (Modelling, VFX)

。Used Houdini to model a glass, built simulations for ice cubes and fluids.
。Created pumps to control fluid noises, and built a sink object to remove unwanted fluid particles.
。Adjusted the ice cubes mass and buoyancy force to lift them up.
。Constructed shaders of glass, ice, and water.
。Used Nuke to adjust rendered image passes.

Burning Paper

Tool: Maya (Modelling, Animation, VFX)

。Applied ramps on different plates to make ramp shader show the burning process and the other ramp show the emitting process.
。One ramp burns paper effects (burnt, ash, between burn and unburnt, and unburnt).
。One ramp controls map emission (black, noise(white/black), and black). Where color white emits fluid, and color black emits nothing.

Candle Light

Tool: Maya (VFX)

。Used Maya fluids to simulated a detailed candle flame.
。Tweaked attributes (density, temperature, dissipation, swirl, and etc.) to make the flame simulation more realistic.

Game Magneta

Tool: Maya (Animation), Photoshop (Sketch)

。Modeled environmental props.
。Animated walking and running cycles for the main character.
。Sketched Mayan culture related environmental objects.
。Responsible for creating game menus.

animal

My arts critique of current events, social issues, and political issues. Some topics might be controversial in our cultures, such as environmental issues, obesity problems, homosexuality, genders, and so on. When some people talk about these issues, they tend to be emotional, or become intolerant of different perspectives. I think it is not necessary to be overly emotional and sensitive about a particular topic, because everyone has a right to his or her own opinion. Sometimes a little bit of humor can break the awkwardness and might provide a new perspective to understand and solve these issues.
